One of the elder's wives in my old hall has a lot of health problems. Anxiety though tops her list. If she's about to run out of her pain meds (the real strong type btw) she starts to get severe panic attacks. Her elder husband must get to the pharmacy asap lest she go ballistic on his a$$! I would call that an addiction, wouldn't you?

What do you call God
by PoppyR inok, very interested to know, for those of you that still have a faith, and it seems many do.
what do you refer to god as?
is jehovah correct, is it not, is it too associated with jws for you to carry on doing that?

I can't say I know what to call God these days, or even if I want to talk to God anyhow. Not sure where I stand at the moment. It's all too raw right now having just left 2 months ago.
As for a good Bible translation, I use an 8-in-1 which I got at the local Bible Society. It's a good reference tool.

Sunday service
by dothemath in.
it used to be quite common for people to go out in field service on sundays after the meeting.........and even fairly regularly on some evenings.. in our hall, this has turned into a bit of a charade..........it's always announced there will be a meeting for service, etc.
etc............but no one at all goes out........not even the brother taking the arrangement.. i don't think many spend their evenings doing this anymore either.. is this what is happening in other congregations?

Interestingly, in the hall I was in, field service was well supported. We had groups for service every weekday at 9 and 1. And on M and W evenings at 6:30. Also, Saturday groups at 9:30 and 1:00 and Sunday after the meeting too. All were well-supported. Our congregation had the 2nd highest number of Bible studies in our circuit. Yet we still got the "do more" talks. Usually for meeting attendance and working territory more frequently. It was never enough.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the kids in my former congregation. I miss them the most. I was the sister who hung with the kids and took interest in them. At every meeting, I would walk into the hall and instantly I'd have about 2 or 3 little ones wrapped around my legs hugging me. I would bend down and scoop them up and we'd proceed to talk about their day. They were the best conversations I had at the hall.
At almost every meeting, there would be at least one kid who'd sit with me. I'd do the typical dub game where I'd have them keep a tally of how many times the speaker said Jehovah or Jesus' name. Come to think of it now, Jehovah always got a much higher score. Other than that, we'd draw pictures and doodle. Even if I didn't have a kid sitting with me, I'd still doodle. It was the only way I could pay attention.
On Saturdays at the service group it was the same thing. If there were kids in my group I'd work with one of them. We'd do some service and then go to the coffee shop and get sprinkly donuts.
And I made it a point to take the kids out and do things with them or go to their house and do non-jw stuff. I really hated the typical jw "fun" of sitting down and watching a wts DVD, although I did it if they wanted to. Usually though, I'd put on music and we'd dance around or I'd bring over paper and markers and we'd draw. Stuff normal kids like to do.
I even had some of these jw kids as clients. (I'm an Educational Therapist). One little baby I worked with had developmental delays and I just heard from my mom (still in the congregation) that this little guy is now walking. I wish I could see that! We went through so much together, him and I. His eyes lit up my heart at every meeting and I wish so much I could just see him again. Darn it. Now I'm crying.
I miss these children so much. I hope one day they'll look me up and ask me why I left the organization. I'll be so happy then.

WHAT DUB THINGS WILL YOU NEVER FORGET?
by Mary innow as much as no one wants to admit it, we all know that there are things we learned in the borg that we'll never forget even if we live to be a hundred.
what is something that you know you'll always remember (despite your best efforts to forget!
for me, it's matthew 24:14 and the names of the three hebrews thrown into the firey furnace (shadrach, meeee-shack and a-bed-we-go)

I can't read the WT and AWAKE anymore
by Jez inhundreds of supplementary publications written by unnamed authors that can hide behind the watchtower and bible tract society and say anything without referencing it.
lately, i have been thinking that this is one of the reasons that the society does not encourage higher education.
try handing in an essay without your name on it, try not referencing your essay, try having no works cited, try to have only 1 works cited, try quoting out of context, try spewing statistics or numbers or trends in your essay with no reference or date, add ellipsis that only alert your instructor to the potential of hidden information, or try presenting as support for your thesis a third party quote.

I used to preach to my High School History teacher (bless his heart--a dear man) and he'd read the wt pubs I gave him but his comment in the end was always: "None of these publications have a bibliograpy. There's no way to check any of their references. It's hard to take them seriously." I wish I'd listened to what he was saying. Would've saved me a lot of heartache.

banished1, let me see if I can answer some of your questions:
Does the new congregation contact the old congregation and get the dirt on your dfing?
If you still live close enough to the original congregation where you were df'd, you have to go back and deal with the original jc. If not, a jc is appointed in your new congregation and the matters are discussed between the congregations in writing.
The original congregation usually holds your records until the situation is rectified and you're reinstated, at which time a letter is sent with the details of your jc and df'ing. And apparently, that information is kept on file at the congregational level for 5 years. At wt, I believe the records are there for life.
Do they need your old P.O.s opinion?
I'm sure they consult the P.O. for everything.
Do they contact ex wives and husbands? If they dont know you, do they reinstate soley on the letters and the exhibited conduct? Do they come out to your house and make an inspection?
Generally, the final decision is based on the original congregation's recommendations and whether you are attending meetings regularly and of course your "repentant" attitude. And that is completely subjective.
Whats the shortest time spent Dfd?....besides Kwins?
The shortest I've heard of is 6 months.

Witness kids having online discussion
by TheListener in.
i ran across this discussion for a kids forum.
if any of you have thoughtful kids that are online perhaps they could say something that would help these young ones earlier rather than later.. for kids only - don't go on posing as a kid - they'll probably eat you alive.. http://boards.zeeks.com/messages.php?tk=46tal5xsm2&pg=1

This is sooooo funny!
One kid said:
"my friend tyler is and he said he can't be in student council because he can't get involved in govermental/politic issues. he also doesn't believe in the trilogy. he says that God(Jehovah),Jesus and the Holy Spirit are sperate beings and not the same person. and the holy spirit is the high power of Jehovah."
I don't believe in the trilogy either! Crazy Tolkien!
Oh, to be young again.
